WAVSYS is currently looking for Field Technicians in multiple markets across the US. This is a long term contract and contract to perm opportunity helping to build and launch the first 4G WI-MAX network in the United States.
WAVSYS will provide basic IP network training, certification on OEM base station and microwave equipment, and an introduction to construction standards training. Although we are providing training, this is not an entry level job.
Local candidates will be considered first. Military communications experience highly desired.
To qualify you should have experience working in a start up or network launch environment within the cellular industry.
Technicians should have a basic understanding of IP networking, and microwave transmission theory. A background in GSM, CDMA or UMTS base stations is a plus, but the technical focus of the job will be IP based and microwave based. Any IP certifications such as A+, Network+, CCNA are highly desired.
You should be familiar with the use of FTP and Telnet, you should be able to push a file to a device through an IP network. You should have Experience with Microwave transmission.
Day to day responsibilities are as follows:
• Provide field support for new cell site construction in the following areas: on site supervision, equipment delivery coordination, path alignment coordination, equipment installation, cell turn up, and cell optimization.
• Determine the cause of equipment failure using various types of complex test equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of equipment assignments.
• Follows up on all network related issues to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Implement, conduct and coordinate the smooth operation, repair, maintenance and expansion of all systems in market.
• Make frequent field visits and assure that all facilities are clean, functioning properly, alarmed properly and measures are being taken to correct any deficiencies.
• Ensure that all pertinent information for site updates is properly documented in site log book monthly and annually.
• Operate, maintain and repair all components of the system in and around the assigned area of responsibility.
• Troubleshoot and resolve customer complaints concerning technical problems with the system.
• Coordinate or perform maintenance of cell sites which involves the emergency generator, batteries/power equipment, the AC units, microwave dishes, antennas, towers, locks and fences, coax cabling, etc.
• Maintaining cell site circuits by routine or fault testing and repairing as needed.
• Maintain cellular radio equipment by correctly aligning frequencies with test equipment. Test for faulty circuits, repair or replace as necessary, and take radio measurements to ensure appropriate signal strength or quality.
• Maintain microwave radio equipment by aligning frequencies with test equipment, performing annual FCC checks to ensure radio operations are in accordance with FCC guidelines and test for faulty radios.
• Determine equipment needed for repairs and replacement of defective system components.
• Receive, investigate, resolve and track trouble tickets.
